Patient ties the knot on ward at Royal Derby Hospital

A patient wedding took place at Royal Derby Hospital on Friday, 24 January, to help a couple fulfil a lifetime wish.

Bride Maria, finally got to tie the knot with partner of 35 years, Philip May on the Nightingale Macmillan Unit, where she is currently being cared for. The pair had been engaged for many years and had often talked about getting married, but never got around to arranging the ceremony.

A date was set for Friday, 24 January and the entire wedding was organised in just four days.

Hospital staff went to extraordinary lengths to make the day as special as possible, including transforming a treatment room on the unit into a wedding venue for the ceremony.

Maria and Philip were joined by more than 10 of their friends and family - as well as some emotional ward staff - to tie the knot in a beautiful service hosted by local Reverend, Alicia Dring.
