A&E department at Queen's Hospital Burton is praised for significantly improving staff retention

Sairah Akhter

We’re delighted that the CQC has recognised the fantastic work of our staff in A&E at Queen’s Hospital Burton for their work to significantly improve levels of recruitment and retention of staff.

Sairah Akhter, Senior Sister in A&E at Queen’s, started her career seven years ago as a newly qualified nurse. Thanks to the support and development opportunities offered to her, she has been able to progress to the role of senior sister.

In a role reversal, Sairah is now helping to teach and develop the student and trainee nurses and supporting other staff in their progression. The team in A&E take on board the views of all staff and adapt and make changes and development opportunities and reviewing shift patterns where appropriate to ensure that staff are trained and prepared to deliver exceptional care together.
