David Muller, Governor

David Muller I was born in Amsterdam to a Dutch father and English mother. My family moved to the UK in 1954 and I became a British citizen shortly afterwards. I was educated in Buckinghamshire and Middlesex.

I started my working life with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines at Heathrow Airport where my management and business skills were developed. I transferred to East Midlands Airport to initiate the first nocturnal air cargo operation into mainland Europe. This concept continues today with EMA being one of the busiest cargo hubs in the UK. I then founded a shipping and forwarding company which I ran successfully for 30 years until my retirement when my involvement with local politics began. I am District Councillor for the Etwall Ward and County Councillor for the Melbourne District of South Derbyshire. My roles within Derbyshire County Council include Support Member for Adult Care and representing the Council on the Derbyshire Fostering Panel.

I have a keen personal interest in the education of deaf children and have been involved with the Royal School for the Deaf Derby for the past 45 years and currently serve on its Trust Board.
