About us

The Derby Clinical Trials Support Unit has been awarded provisional clinical trials unit registration by the UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC). The CTU was established in 2008 and is hosted by the University Hospitals of Derby & Burton NHS Foundation Trust. The integration within a research active Trust provides a unique insight into delivering clinical trials within the NHS by utilising our close collaboration with clinical colleagues.

We support new and experienced researchers, who may apply for funding to a variety of funders including all Association of Medical Research Charities (e.g. Diabetes UK, Kidney Research UK), all National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) programmes (including Research for Patient Benefit and Fellowships), industry funding, Academic Health Science Network funding, and local funding. The portfolio of studies supported by the CTU covers a wide range of therapeutic areas as well.

The CTU has expertise in the design, conduct and analysis of clinical trials made possible through an experienced team comprising of methodologists, trialists, data managers, trial managers, statisticians, research pharmacists and research nurses. We are a growing team, able to provide a personalised, bespoke service to suit individual trial needs and we are happy to provide support with a variety of trial size and designs, from single-centre feasibilities through to multi-centre, interventional, randomised controlled trials.
