Air Arts presents ‘A Choral Forest’, 8 October 2022

We are delighted that our friends and charitable partners at Air Arts are hosting a special event entitled A Choral Forest.

The event will be held at Lichfield Cathedral on Saturday 8 October – featuring an artistic showcase of poetry, art and music collected from UHDB staff during the Covid-19 pandemic, as part of Air Arts’s Staff Voice project

We hope that this showcase of the creative ability of our friends and colleagues can support the recovery process, as we look back on over two very challenging years for #TeamUHDB colleagues.

The event includes:

  • Performances by the UHDB Staff Wellbeing Choir – their first ever public performances – alongside the Derby and Lichfield Cathedral Choirs, including #TeamUHDB poetry.
  • Exhibitions of staff artworks collected during the pandemic.
  • A multi-disciplinary art installation called Choral Forest, which will provide the setting for the performance and exhibition at each Cathedral venue.

Both instalments of the event are free to attend, and open to all!

This offers us all a chance to reflect on our experiences of the past 2 years, to be grateful to our community of amazing UHDB staff, to pay tribute to those loved ones we have lost, and to look forward to the future.

The Choral Forest Installation

The Choral Forest is a series of extensive hand drawn and crafted trees created by Air Arts visual artist E J Lance, and Sculptor Miles Halpin.

Each of the five trees in the forest stands at two metres tall and is intricately designed to reflect each of the  five Derby & Burton University Hospital Trust sites. The Choral Forest is providing the setting for performances of the Trust’s Staff Wellbeing Choir and Cathedral Choirs at Derby Cathedral and Lichfield Cathedral this Autumn.

UHDB Staff Wellbeing Choir performances

The Choir, alongside the house choirs for Derby Cathedral and Lichfield Cathedral will be singing music created by Air Arts in response to the pandemic, including the charity single ‘A Grateful Heart’ and brand-new piece ‘The Longest Winter’ as well as other music chosen to reflect on their experiences. The performance will also feature UHDB staff reading their own poetry written during the pandemic.
