The switchboard team at Queen’s Hospital Burton have been commended for always providing a service with a smile while supporting 3000 callers every day.
The heroes in headsets are based at Queen’s and answer queries from Burton, Tamworth and Lichfield.
Duncan Bedford, Executive Managing Director for Burton surprised the team with their award, he said: “They are all so dedicated, every time I have called, despite the hour, the team are so polite and helpful. This is truly deserved recognition for a team who provide such an important service.
“This award also recognises the support that the team provide to each other. Last year a member of the team sadly passed away, despite the challenges and tears the team continued to provide a quality service truly putting our patients and communities first.”
Maria Thornley has worked on switchboard for 23 years, she said: “When you put on the headset you know that you’re going to be helping people for your full shift, that’s really rewarding. It’s amazing to receive this award, we really appreciate it.”
