All hospitals now publish information about the number of nursing and midwifery staff working on each ward, together with the percentage of shifts meeting safe staffing guidelines.
This initiative is part of the NHS response to the Francis report which called for greater openness and transparency in the health service.
Information about staffing levels at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust will be published monthly. Full details will also be reported to public meetings of our Board of Directors.
We are displaying boards for patients and visitors in our wards to show the planned and actual staffing available at the start of every shift. These also show a range of quality measures ranging from infection control to whether patients would recommend the care they received to others on the ward information boards.
