If you think you may have symptoms of Coronavirus, follow the national guidance and self-isolate for seven days. The adult audiology service provides a range of audiological tests including diagnostic hearing assessments and hearing therapy.

Services are delivered at Royal Derby Hospital, London Road Community Hospital and Queen's Hospital Burton, as well as clinics at locations across the community.

Service changes during COVID-19 - Queen's Hospital Burton

The Audiology department at Queen’s Hospital Burton has suspended all routine appointments in line with the Trust's response to COVID-19; this includes the regular hearing aid drop in clinics that were held 3 times a week. 

However, we are still providing a repair and maintenance service. Where possible, we would prefer this to be facilitated through the postal service. Hearing aids can be posted to Queen’s Hospital. Upon receipt the hearing aid will be serviced/repaired and posted back. Please enclose some information regarding the nature of the fault to allow us to address the issue as swiftly as possible.

Alternatively, you can drop your hearing aids off at either the Audiology Department at Queen's Hospital, Outpatients Reception at Samuel Johnson or the general office at Sir Robert Peel which is just to the left inside the main entrance, Monday - Friday between 9am - 4pm.  The hearing aids will need to be placed in an envelope. The hearing aids would need to be clearly labelled with the patient’s details and please provide us with information regarding the nature of the issue. We will then contact you once your hearing aids have been repaired and are ready to collect. 

For our most vulnerable patients, who are unable to leave their homes and do not have any family members or friends that are able to collect their hearing aids to post them or drop them into one of our hospitals we are offering a ‘contactless’ home visit repair and maintenance service.

Home visit hearing aid repairs are for patients who:

  • are unable to leave their homes due to health or mobility issues,
  • are self- isolating during the current coronavirus crisis,
  • are vulnerable due to sight loss, disability, learning difficulties or dementia, or who
  • have a significant level of hearing loss, which would cause undue harm, distress or difficulty for them to wait for the aid to be sent and returned in the post.

An audiologist would come to your home to repair/service your hearing aids.   You would need to leave your hearing aids outside of your home in an envelope/ bag along with a description of the issue.  The hearing aids would then be repaired by an audiologist who will be wearing the appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).  Once the aids have been repaired they would be left outside of your home for you to collect once the audiologist is a safe distance away.
