Volunteering

Volunteer with us

Nobody wants to visit hospital if they can help it, but our 600 volunteers make our hospitals a far better place to be.

They are the smiling faces that welcome and guide patients as they arrive at our hospitals, a friend to talk to on a ward, and an extra pair of hands to help support our busy staff.

They are an invaluable part of our Trust and we look forward to welcoming you into the team.

Are you interested in becoming a clinical volunteer?

Karen Hill, Senior Nurse, and two volunteers

Following the success of The Big Hospital Experiment we are hoping to introduce a clinical volunteer role at UHDB Trust in 2020.

If you’re aged 18-25 and you’d like to register your interest, please email your name, contact number and a short description about yourself to uhdb.communications@nhs.net

Our eclectic mix of volunteers

Al the hairdresser

Every Monday, Al closes his salon to provide free haircuts to patients at London Road Community Hospital. He's proved to be a very popular addition to our team of volunteers, adding some much needed pampering for our patients.

Izzy the dog and her owner Margaret

Izzy the Pets as Therapy dog

Izzy and her owner Margaret visit Queen’s Hospital Burton and Samuel Johnson every week to visit hospital patients and provide holistic interventions.

John the buggy driver

John volunteers his time to drive patients around the Royal Derby Hospital in our yellow buggy.

You may have seen the motor vehicles driving round the hospital helping patients with mobility issues reach their appointments.
