Skin cancer specialist Joanne hailed a 'rock' by grateful patient

A UHDB colleague who helps patients following a skin cancer diagnosis has been hailed a ‘rock’ by one patient who nominated her for a Making a Difference Award.

Joanne Douglas, Skin cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist, helps many skin cancer patients in her role but the compassion she showed to one patient was so exceptional that the patient went on to nominate her as her ‘Patient hero’.

UHDB’s role as a leader in the advancement of Dermatology has been highlighted on a global scale after an unprecedented number of Trust-led projects were presented at a prestigious conference. More than 1,900 delegates from all over the world tuned in to this year’s British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) annual conference, which featured 11 talks on papers submitted by dermatology colleagues at UHDB.

Dermatology clinicians working together to enhance patient experience across the community

UHDB’s Dermatology team has been commended for working with GPs across Derbyshire to help patients with potential skin conditions to be assessed by a specialist sooner. The Consultant Connect service allows our Dermatology consultants to offer clinical advice to GPs remotely on whether there is a need for their patient to be seen by a specialist in our hospitals.
