An innovative project which embeds medical students into the Patient Experience team to help them gain a deeper understanding of a patient's time spent in hospital has been recognised after being shortlisted for a national award. The Paediatric Medical Students Patient Experience and Quality Improvement Special Study Module (SSM), was developed after colleagues at UHDB identified a gap in the curriculum for students around understanding the full patient journey and the experiences of patients who require admission to our hospitals.

A huge congratulations to the Estates and Facilities and Patient Experience Team, who were the runners up for the Team of the Year Category at the IHEEM Healthcare Estates 2022.

Mia Metcalfe has recently taken on a new position on Sir Robert Peel Community Hospital’s Andrew Ward as Patient Experience Facilitator, helping to provide patients with more activities and things to do during their stay on the ward.

The Go For It fund was  set up by the Patient Experience Team to support any ideas from our colleagues that could be expanded on to improve patient experience in our hospitals. 

We are delighted to announce the rour winners and runners up for Patient Experience Champion of the Year 2022.

Our winner is Amie Beaton, Registered Nurse in the Combined Day Unit, RDH.

Our furry friend Lottie, the Pets As Therapy (PAT) dog, has finished in the top six at the national PAT Dog of the Year competition.

UHDB has introduced a brand new service to help patients stay in contact with their families from their hospital ward while current visiting restrictions are in place because of COVID-19.

The Trust can now arrange for patients to receive a ‘virtual visit’ via video call from their loved ones, or have a written message passed on, to improve their wellbeing and make them feel less isolated.
