Staff Survey sees colleagues showcase their trust in UHDB care

Staff at UHDB have said that the Trust is the place where they would like their families to receive treatment.

Each year, the NHS nationally undertakes an anonymous staff survey, with more than 250,000 NHS staff taking part this year – including nearly 6,000 from UHDB.

The Trust again scored highly, with 78.7% of staff saying they agreed with the key question of “if a friend or relative needed treatment, I would be happy with the standard of care provided by this organisation”, which is well above the national average of 70.5%.

In addition, staff also said that they believed UHDB is the best place to work and that the care of patients was the organisation’s top priority.

Both areas scored well above the national average. The Trust has also made progress in equality and diversity, with improved scores from BAME staff and those identifying as disabled.

Gavin Boyle, Chief Executive, said: “This survey is an important barometer for the new organisation and the views expressed by our staff are heartening, as they reflect the type of organisation we are trying to become. Our patients and our communities can be reassured that the staff providing the care are committed to the Trust and it’s the place they would want their own relatives to receive care. It is also good to hear the voice of minority staff is represented and that progress is being made, though there is more to do.”

On the 11 key indicators, such as quality of care, safety and engagement, UHDB was above or below to within 1-2% of the national average. However, the survey did identify areas where the Trust can improve, such as musculoskeletal problems.

Gavin Boyle added: “There are many areas our staff have identified as quick wins. In the survey, an increased number of staff said they had experienced musculoskeletal problems. To support this, we are going to introduce a new rapid access service for staff, so that those who have an MSK problem can get an assessment and treatment quickly.”
