Jobs in Department of Medicine for the Elderly (DME)

DME provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services to older people, particularly the frail elderly and those with multiple medical problems.

We typically see inpatients who require urgent hospital care, and may have an associated syndrome of frailty such as recurrent falls, needing support and care to do daily activities, and may have chronic confusion such as delirium or dementia.

Why join us in DME?

Several teams in our department have been highlighted nationally as examples of innovative best practice.

We offer specialist frailty and elderly assessments through our Frail Elderly Assessment Team (FEAT+) > to support patients on attendance to the Emergency Department and assessment areas. We also operate surgical and orthopaedic services to support other specialities managing inpatients with multi-morbidity and frailty.

We have a variety of outpatient services, which include multidisciplinary clinics such as the Comprehensive Assessment Service for Older People (CASOP), which provide patients with support from consultants and therapists, to help with preventing falls and other medical problems.

We provide speciality clinics, including one for Parkinson's Disease - as a Trust we are an accredited Centre of Excellence; one of only two centres across the UK.
