Vaccination Hub

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton has given out its 10,000th coronavirus vaccine dose just more than a month after opening our ‘Vaccination Hub’ at Royal Derby Hospital.

The milestone came on Friday 15 January at 9.10am. The Trust has been handing out the vaccine to the most vulnerable local people in Derbyshire and Staffordshire as well as to frontline health and social workers since Tuesday, 8 December 2020.

Speaking about the 10,000th dose milestone, Jade Mitchell, Clinical Lead for the Covid-19 Vaccination Hub, said: “Working towards this milestone has been such an emotional journey for us all. It’s been amazing to meet all of the patients and staff who have come to have their vaccine and hear how the pandemic has changed their lives.

Donald Shipley - DEC 2020The hub has been a fantastic team effort and I am so proud of the help and support that we have received off so many different colleagues and professions across the Trust.. We couldn’t do what we are doing down here without a whole Team UHDB effort.”

Michelle Beedie, a Healthcare Science Associate at UHDB, received her vaccine last week. She said: “feel incredibly privileged and grateful to have had my first COVID jab this week. Apart from a sore arm for a day, I’ve had no side effects. Well done to the team running The Hospital Hub.

“You’re doing a fantastic job of organising the flow of people, keeping everywhere clean and sanitised and putting people at ease. The atmosphere down there was brilliant, everyone seemed really happy to be plying their part in trying to beat this pandemic. Go team UHDB!”
