Immunotherapy
Immunotherapy is a type of cancer treatment that uses the immune system to fight cancer.
This treatment may be given on its own or with other cancer treatments, to help the immune system recognise and attack cancer cells. However, immunotherapy can also cause unwanted effects, which are very different to the side effects of other cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
UHDB has introduced a dedicated Immunotherapy Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) to support patients throughout their treatment, to keep them well and avoid them having to return to hospital unnecessarily. They will also provide advice, education, and support to other clinical teams, to be able to identify and treat the signs and symptoms of immunotherapy side effects.
