Demolition work is underway on some unused existing buildings at the Outwoods site of Queen's Hospital Burton as part of the ongoing Outwoods project plans to develop a health village at the site - with the initial phase of the project seeing a primary care facility being constructed.
As this phase of the project begins, it involves demolishing the Geoffrey Hodges building, Diabetes building, Outwoods boiler house and multiple workshops that have been unused for many years, creating space for this new primary care facility to be built.
The overall project is a joint programme, with NHS Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care Board (ICB), as part of their Primary and Community Care strategy to create a community health space, with a large primary care facility to meet the growing demands of local communities.
The primary care facility is expected to be open in late summer 2027 and will be managed by Carlton Group Practice, a GP service in the area who will be relocating to the facility.
The Outwoods site regeneration and construction projects are delivered with the Trust's supply chain partner GallifordTry, who work collaboratively with the Outwoods Project Team to deliver this project and who have worked with the Trust on projects including the Florence Nightingale Community Hospital Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) and the Hybrid Theatre at Royal Derby Hospital.
