Lower Limb Therapy

Within the Musculoskeletal Therapy department at Florence Nightingale Community Hospital, we manage conditions and injuries of the lower limb.

We provide a rehabilitation service in an outpatient setting, but can also refer into Group Rehabilitation for specialised work-related rehab depending on a patient’s individual’s needs and abilities. We accept referrals from a variety of sources including GP, Emergency department and the Trauma and Orthopaedic clinic.

We have a specialist interest in post-operative rehabilitation and our protocols have been devised in conjunction with the orthopaedic surgeons to ensure the patients are receiving the best possible care after surgery.

We can order relevant investigations and provide steroid injections in the department, where appropriate. We work closely with orthopaedic consultants at the Royal Derby Hospital and have strong links with Orthopaedic clinic, A&E Consultants, trauma and orthopaedics wards and other rehabilitation disciplines such as occupational therapy splints, orthotics and podiatry.

Complaints affecting the lower limb are very common. Most of these conditions often get better with time and physiotherapy. If conservative measures such as physiotherapy and time fail, we can refer to other specialist areas such as Orthopaedic consultants for assessment and treatment as appropriate.  You will find more information on some of the conditions we treat in the 'lower limb therapy conditions' section on this page.
