3D virtual tours of our Neonatal Units now available to support families

Special Care Baby Unit

Families who have babies being cared for in our Neonatal Units can now access 3D virtual tours to support them during their stay.

The new 3D virtual tours are available on our website and give families an in-depth look at the Neonatal Unit at Royal Derby Hospital and the newly refurbished Special Care Baby Unit at Queen's Hospital Burton.

The videos, which were put together by the East Midlands Neonatal Operational Delivery Network (EMNODN), allow members of our community to use a tool that gives a 3D look around the units, with a special function that provides descriptions about the machines and equipment they may see during a stay.

Lynn Slade, Lead Nurse for Neonatal Services, said the videos are a useful way to support families who may be anxious about using the unit or for families who have been transferred from a different hospital to become more familiar with their new surroundings.

Lynn said: "It can be really overwhelming to have a baby that needs neonatal support. You might be in an environment you haven’t been in before and there are lots of machines and sounds that we know can cause additional upset or anxiety.

"The aim of these videos is to provide families that may need to use our units, with these tools to allow them to feel more comfortable and supported during their time with us."

You can take a 3d virtual tour of the units here >.

To use the virtual tour, click on the screen and you will be directed to the unit. You will see various icons on the screen which will provide descriptions of the surroundings and useful information about the hospital and the Special Care Baby Unit or Neonatal Unit.
