Burton Theatre Porter raises hundreds for Twycross Zoo with virtual quiz

Fundraising team for Twycross Zoo

Johnny Buckley, Theatre Porter from Queen’s Hospital Burton, heard about Twycross Zoo's financial struggles after having to close due to the coronavirus outbreak and decided to do something to help.

Throughout the month of June, Johnny held a weekly virtual quiz for his colleagues to help raise money and support the zoo’s “Summer of Survival” fundraising campaign. In total, the virtual quiz managed to raise over £200.

Johnny said: “When lockdown first came in, my intention was to help everyone by keeping up staff morale during these unprecedented times. Some of my colleagues were unable to meet friends and family, which caused a lot of anxiety. I just wanted to do a little something that would help my friends and colleagues out.

“Now lockdown is being eased the quiz numbers have dropped a little, but it is so nice to see people being able to go back out to see loved ones again.

“Each quiz usually takes around four to five hours to prepare for, but if I was able to help just one person out over the last few months, then that makes me incredibly happy.”

Duncan Bedford, Executive Managing Director at Burton, visited the Theatres department at QHB to thank Johnny for what he had done throughout the pandemic to support an important and local cause.

Duncan handed over one of our new #TeamUHDB thank you cards to Johnny to thank him for his hard work and bringing the team together.

Thank you Johnny
