Chair Prem Singh to retire following distinguished NHS career
University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust's Chair, Prem Singh, has announced his intention to retire from his role, with his departure expected towards the end of the calendar year.
Prem said: "It is with a heavy heart that I have decided to retire from my role as Chair of UHDB.
"As some people may know, I returned to work in January following treatment for cancer. Unfortunately, my recovery has been slower than anticipated and, after more than 50 years of NHS service, I have decided the time is right to focus on my continued recovery and to spend quality time with my family.
"It has been a privilege to work alongside so many dedicated colleagues throughout my career and, more recently, at UHDB. I would like to place on record my sincere thanks for everyone's support and wish my colleagues past and present every success for the future."
Prem's retirement marks the conclusion of a remarkable NHS career spanning more than 50 years. Throughout that time, Prem has served communities in a variety of nursing, executive, chief executive and chair roles, across different parts of the NHS and social care, earning widespread respect for his commitment to public service and improving healthcare.
Stephen Posey, Chief Executive, said: "Prem has dedicated his life to serving patients and communities in the NHS and has made a significant contribution to healthcare across Derbyshire, Staffordshire and beyond.
"His decision to return to UHDB earlier this year, despite the personal challenges he had faced with his health, demonstrated the exceptional commitment and sense of public service that have always defined him.
"Throughout a remarkable career spanning more than five decades, Prem has embodied the values of the NHS and we are enormously grateful for his leadership, wisdom and support.
"On behalf of UHDB, I would like to thank Prem for his outstanding service and wish him continued recovery, good health and many happy years with his family."
The process to appoint a new Chair will begin in due course.
