University Hospitals of Derby and Burton is today celebrating International Day of the Midwife, recognising the invaluable care our midwives provide to women and their babies.

Once you’ve met them you rarely forget them. Midwives play such an important part in the lives of our women and their families

In the midst of this global pandemic throughout the past year, midwives across University Hospitals of Derby and Burton have risen to this extraordinary challenge to support one another in the fight to protect women and babies, helping to bring over 8,000 new born babies into the world.

Patti Paine, Director of Midwifery said, “I want to wish all of our midwives a very happy International Day of the Midwife. We’re very privileged to Midwives, working in Maternity care and we should always remember at the forefront of our minds how important our role is when we care for our women, their babies and families day after day.”
