Competition - We want your photos for our new 'Pop Up Bedroom' scenes

The End of Life Care Team at UHDB is calling on budding photographers from the local area to help them in designing four new scenes for their ‘Pop Up Bedrooms’ scheme.

The scheme aims to transform the environment of a hospital room for a patient who is in final few hours or days of their life.

This can be done by fitting a large screen next to the patient’s bed that can depict a range of different landscapes and scenery, including bluebell woods, The Golden Temple in India, the Kaaba in Mecca and many more, whilst recliner chairs are available to allow family and friends to stay by their loved one’s side through the night.

Over the past few years, the bedrooms have received positive feedback from patients and their families, and so the team are going to be adding two new scenes to the collection – and want your help in deciding what scenes will be chosen.

Karen Bussooa, End of Life Facilitator at UHDB, said: “Our ‘Pop Up Bedrooms’ have been so well received that we thought that we should get some more to provide added comfort to patients and their families in the final stages of their lives.

“We’re looking for some beautiful picturesque photos of scenery, where it’s taken, is up to you. There are plenty of beauty spots in Derbyshire and Staffordshire, and further afield, so we’d encourage anyone who has taken a stunning, relaxing photograph to send it into us.”

If you wish to send in an entry to be considered for use in our ‘Pop Up Bedrooms’ scheme, here’s everything you need to know:

  • Photos must be landscape, not portrait
  • Photos should be of scenery and landmarks, and can include animals in the picture. People should not be part of the picture
  • Please send in images of a high resolution as possible – if yours is chosen, it will need to be able to be resized appropriately

Please send your entries to uhdb.communications@nhs.net. Entries are open from Thursday 1 August – Friday 30 August.
