To mark the one year anniversary of the pandemic, members of Team UHDB are sharing their thoughts and reflections of their personal and work lives during Covid-19.

The pandemic will have had a very different impact on each and every one of us, so the one year anniversary since we started to see the first inpatients admitted is a good opportunity to reflect on the year gone and to look forward.

Today Emma, Senior Sister on Ward 302 at Royal Derby Hospital, has shared how she feels about her team one year on from the beginning of the pandemic in the below poem:

Two thousand and twenty oh what a year, a worldwide pandemic had us living in fear.

We have stepped up and adapted, changing our ways, now wearing masks for our very long days.

After a storm rainbows shine bright, the NHS is in darkness and you are the light.

Working together in our different roles, focused on patients, achieving our goals.

We have worked as a team through the thick and the thin, often helped out by chocolate and gin.

The care and compassion our patients receive, a ten out of ten we strive to achieve.

The futures not certain for that I am sure, I can’t think of a team I want to work with more.

Stay strong, be happy and remember to smile, you are all amazing, I have known for a while.

As a manager I can say you all blow me away, with dedication care and strength everyday.

Be proud and stay safe we are in this together. We will always be Ward 302, caring forever.
