When Emma Hall woke up in the middle of the night on 6 August 2020 at 35 weeks pregnant, she had no idea that in a couple of hours time she would meet her new-born son.

New-mum, Emma, bought her little boy into the world via c-section at Royal Derby Hospital. She said: “We had no idea when we woke at home at 03:30am at 35 weeks pregnant we would be meeting our little boy in just over 3 hours. The team in Maternity Theatres were truly incredible. They made us feel like we were the only c-section ever to take place.

“Throughout the whole procedure, the team made us laugh throughout. When my little boy made his arrival, the anaesthetist took lots of photos for us, which will be such special memories for us to look back on. All of them were reaching the end of their night shift, and as a paramedic, I know how difficult this can be but their care was nothing but gold standard.

“The team made what could have been a very scary experience, very relaxing and most importantly delivered our baby boy to the world quickly and safely! They really do deserve a huge thank you. I’m so glad they have received the recognition for their amazing patient centred care.”

Cathy Winfield, Executive Chief Nurse at UHDB said, “I feel incredibly privileged to hear that this team has won the Team UHDB Making a Difference Award as they are a team who helped me deliver two of my babies through c-section. It’s really great to see you nominated for an award.

“Thank you for helping this family with what can sometimes be a nervous and scary time. You have all done a fantastic job at making this experience as good as it possibly could have been for the family and provided gold standard care. Well done to all of you!”

Tess Chughtai, Theatre Practitioner said, “It is very rewarding to have received this. We always strive to provide the best care that we can for the patient. We put kindness and compassion at the heart of everything we do. Thank you so much to Emma, who nominated us – we are very grateful.”
