Emotional Clap For Carers tribute by emergency services

public clapping for carers

Members of the police and ambulance service joined staff at Royal Derby Hospital last night (Thursday 2 April) in an emotional tribute to frontline staff in the second Clap For Carers.

Members of the emergency services congregated outside the hospital's main entrance at 8pm to pay tribute to the hard work of staff during the Coronavirus pandemic.

The moment was made extra-special as the emergency service vehicles turned on their flashing lights and blarred their sirens as everyone joined together in a touching tribute.

Chloe McCormack, a Radiographic Assistant in the Imaging Department, was there and said it was an emotional moment:

“When I came out of the hospital, there were a number of police cars and ambulances parked up, and as we headed out, everyone got out of their vehicles and started clapping. They put their lights and sirens on as well, and it really was lovely.

"When the first Clap For Carers took place last week, I was on shift so couldn’t take part, so to go out last night and see this amazing gesture really was emotional and quite overwhelming. When you’re at work, you’re in your own little bubble and we just see it as doing our jobs to the best of our abilities.

"A lot of us within the department are currently distancing from our friends, family and partners so to come outside of the hospital and see this outpouring of emotion was amazing, we’re all so appreciative of everyone’s kindness. It’s a busy time for us at the moment, but everyone in the Imaging Department is so supportive and we’re a close knit team, so we really help each other out. I’d just like to say thank you to everyone, including my team, for pulling together.

"Please stay safe and stay home."

Members of Staffordshire Police also paid tribute to our amazing staff outside Samuel Johnson Community Hospital in Lichfield.
