University Hospitals of Derby and Burton’s Executive Chief Nurse has been appointed to a prestigious role at NHS England. Cathy Winfield MBE will spend one day a week on secondment as one of three new Executive Nurse Fellows.

The appointment was announced by Ruth May, Chief Nursing Officer for England. She said: “Bridget Lees, Cathy Winfield and Prof Nina Morgan bring a wealth of experience across the nursing professions and I am delighted to welcome them to our senior leadership team for the next 12 months.”

Cathy, who was awarded an MBE in October last year for her services to nursing, said: “I’m delighted to take up this post as Executive Nurse Fellow supporting Chief Nursing Officer for England Ruth May. The secondment will not only allow me to use the knowledge and experience I have gained in Derbyshire to help others, but also share the learning and experience from this next year with colleagues back at UHDB. I’m fortunate to have two exceptional Directors of Nursing in Gill Ogden and Phil Bolton at UHDB who will ensure that this additional role will not have any impact on UHDB itself.”
