New garden development underway at FNCH

Work has started on the garden outside Ward 2 at Florence Nightingale Community Hospital (FNCH).

Ward 2 cares for patients on End-of-Life-Care, and since the ward opened in 2020 the garden has seen the creation of a mural through donations and fundraising from the staff and became a space for patients and relatives to enjoy the fresh air and quality time together.

Over time this outdoor space has suffered general wear and tear and is in need of sprucing up. Several donations from families who have wanted to say thank you to the care provided have been given allowing for the restoration project to begin.

The work, which is forecasted to last until June, will mean the teams working on Ward 2 will be able to assist patients to spend time in the garden with their families. Patients will be able to enjoy the fresh air, warmth and the peaceful atmosphere as well as listening to sounds of nature.

This outdoor space is also enjoyed by the patients and families on Ward 3, 4 and 5 at FNCH, and is a place which enables many patients and their families to come together for their wellbeing.
