New multi-storey car park to open and parking rules changing at Royal Derby Hospital from 3 November 2025
The new multi-storey car park at Royal Derby Hospital will be opening on Monday 3 November 2025, helping to create an additional 500 on-site parking spaces and more disabled parking to improve the experience for patients and visitors who park at our hospital — and the park and ride service will be closing on Friday 7 November.
The five-storey car park, which has been built on the site of the old car park 6, can be accessed by driving around the hospital main ring road. It has 91 spaces for Blue Badge holders and spaces equipped with charging points for electric vehicles - which will be in operation in 2026 - making attending Royal Derby Hospital easier for everyone.
The opening of the long-awaited facility also means there will be changes to some of the other car parks across Royal Derby Hospital, and parking on site will no longer be 'short stay only' from 3 November onwards. From that date, most car parks are reverting back to the setup from before construction began in October 2024, which means several of the car parks will have no maximum stay limits (no time restriction on stays). Those changes include:
- Car park 2 (up the ramp and outside the Kings Treatment Centre) will revert back to standard spaces, having been reserved for Blue Badge holders only during construction.
- Car park 7 (accessed by driving around the hospital main ring road and situated past the new multi-storey car park) will revert to no maximum stay limits, including Blue Badge spaces
- Car park 8 (to the left of the main entrance at the front of the hospital) will revert back to a short stay car park (three-hour maximum stay) including Blue Badge spaces (there is no maximum stay limit for Blue Badge holders)
The car parks that will remain with their current setup are:
- Car park 3 (under the Kings Treatment Centre) will stay available for Blue Badge holders only (no maximum stay)

Park and ride will be closing from 7 November
The free-to-use park and ride service, which has been operating from Kingsway Boulevard since construction began on the multi-storey car park, will close at 6.30pm on Friday 7 November. This is to ensure a short period of crossover with the new car park setup, to help patients and visitors who travel by car to the hospital to plan their journeys accordingly.
This service, which we appreciate has been greatly received by our patients and visitors, was only ever a temporary arrangement, as we leased the land for use during the construction period only, and the land has been designated for other uses.
