Roadworks affecting access to Queen’s Hospital Burton (19-30 May 2025)

Staffordshire County Council has informed us that essential roadworks will take place on Belvedere Road, near to Queen’s Hospital Burton, over a two-week period starting Monday 19 May, affecting vehicle access to the site.
The works will take place from Monday to Friday each week, and are expected to finish by around 3pm daily. The road will remain open from 3pm each day, and at weekends.
Throughout this period, we encourage all of our patients and colleagues to allow extra time where possible when travelling to the hospital site.
Between Monday 26 May - Friday 30 May, access for non-emergency vehicles will only be possible using Entrance A, located at the island opposite the Shell garage.
Anyone with questions or concerns about the roadworks can contact Staffordshire County Council via: trafficandnetwork@staffordshire.gov.uk.
Summary of roadworks on Belvedere Road, Burton-upon-Trent
During the first week of works (from Monday 19 May), one lane of the road outside the hospital will remain open under traffic light control, with no full road closure in place. Traffic lights will be manually operated to allow blue light vehicles through as a priority in either direction.
FromMonday 26 May, the works will move into a second resurfacing phase. During this time, intermittent road closures will take place at the island nearest the Shell garage, which connects to the hospital entrance road.
To maintain access to the hospital:
- Emergency vehicles, including ambulances and private vehicles travelling to A&E, will still be allowed through the closure. Marshals will be stationed on both sides of the affected area to assist with access.
- All other vehicles will need to enter the site using Entrance A, located at the island opposite the Shell garage. Signage and traffic marshals will help direct vehicles during this time.
Emergency services, including West Midlands and East Midlands Ambulance Services, have been informed, and we have been informed that road information will be updated on one.network to ensure their navigation systems are kept up to date.
