A member of the Urology team at QHB has raised more than £1,300 for charity by completing a gruelling swimathon.

Sarah Minns, Urology Advanced Nurse Practitioner, swam 5km in just over two hours on Sunday 18 October, at Burton's Meadowside Leisure Centre - that's the equivalent of 200 lengths of the pool!

Joining Sarah on the swim was her best friend, Lisa, whose husband was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2017 and sadly died less than a year later.

Sarah said: "Lisa decided she wanted to give something back to the various charities that helped to support her and her family through the most difficult times of their life. She asked me if I would do the swimathon with her and I agreed."

The duo should have embarked on their huge effort earlier in the year, but restrictions due to Covid-19 meant this was delayed. But that didn't stop Sarah and Lisa from surpassing even their own expectations.

Sarah added: "Our initial plan was to swim 5km between us, which would have been 100 lengths each. We actually ended up swimming 5km each and did it in just over two hours."

So far, £1,345 has been raised which the pair plan to donate to Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie.
