Second doses underway at Queen's Hospital Burton Vaccine Hub

The Vaccine Hub at Queen’s Hospital Burton has opened its door again as staff and patients begin receiving their second doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Now, UHDB has two active Vaccine Hubs which will be aiming to administer around 900 vaccines each day until the end of April when the staff vaccination programme comes to a close. At this point, more than 50,000 vaccinations will have taken place since the programme began in December 2020.

There has been an air of positivity around the Burton hub since it opened its doors on 22 March which Viv Jones, Clinical Lead for the Vaccination Programme at Queen’s Hospital Burton, says has been fantastic to see:

“There has been a real buzz around the building as people arrive to receive their second dose which is great to see. It’s fantastic to have the hub here at Queen’s Hospital Burton open for this second period of vaccinations and things have been going really well so far.”

The team in Burton will also be delivering around 4,500 extra doses during this second period as those who received their first dose at the Pirelli Stadium are now to receive their second dose at Queen’s Hospital.

Caitlin Richens, Vaccination Hub Programme Manager, heaped praise on our incredible colleagues whose commitment has made the roll-out of the vaccine such a success: “I’d just like to say again a huge thank you to everyone at the hub at both Derby and Burton for all of their continued hard work and support in making this an efficient process for everyone. It’s been a real team effort and everyone has been fantastic.”
