Take two minutes to save up to nine lives this Organ Donation Week
University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB) is pleased to mark national Organ Donation Week 2026, running from Monday 21 to Sunday 27 September - and to take this opportunity to encourage our communities across Derbyshire and Staffordshire, to take just two minutes to confirm your organ donation decision on the NHS Organ Donor Register > and save up to nine lives.
More than 8,600 people across the UK are currently waiting for a transplant - with many waiting for an organ that could save, or transform their life.
Sadly, on average, one person dies every day waiting for an organ transplant - but recording your decision is one of the simplest things you can do to help. If you've already registered your decision - there is no better time to talk to your loved ones about organ donation, whether that’s the decision you've made or the decision they could make. Whether you decide to donate or note, it's important to record your choice.

As part of Organ Donation Week, our Royal Derby Hospital site will be lit up pink at night, with the much-beloved 'flappy man' set up on the walkway towards the main entrance - just two simple ways we're showing our support of organ donation and our active encouragement of people to confirm their donation decision.
