Team UHDB Award: Emergency Departments

Emergency departments win award

The teams our Emergency Departments at Royal Derby Hospital and Queen’s Hospital Burton have been awarded with a Team UHDB Award for the care and compassion they have continued to deliver to our patients and the way they have adapted and responded to COVID-19.

The way in which our Emergency Departments are laid out at both acute hospitals has changed during the pandemic to ensure that symptomatic and asymptomatic patients are kept apart to reduce the spread of the virus.

But the team has also been on the frontline, treating patients with the virus on a daily basis, all while continuing to deliver exceptional care to our community.

Our CEO, Gavin Boyle, presented members of the team with the award, and paid tribute to their continued dedication and hard work during the most testing of times:

“At a time of anxiety, this team is at the sharp end, and you’ve lost a close colleague and friend in Manjeet Singh which was upsetting to us all. I think the Trust as a whole has done a brilliant job in responding to COVID, and the Emergency Department has been absolutely critical in that.

“On a human level, we all have families and we’re all worried about COVID but you guys have come in day in, day out and make sure patients are being looked after.”
