UHDB Consultant running for cause close to his heart

Mr Edward Oforka

A UHDB Consultant has set off on his mammoth attempt to run 100km in 10 days for a cause close to his heart.

Mr Edward Oforka, who is an Emergency Medicine Consultant at Queen’s Hospital Burton, is hoping to raise £20,000 to help improve the lives of children in his home town.

Edward is aiming to run 10km every day for 10 consecutive days, in order to develop his former primary school back in his native Nigeria and provide youngsters in the area with greater opportunities to excel.

He said: “I believe that education is a key route to development and I know that I wouldn’t be where I am today without the educational opportunities that I have received.”

Edward started his challenge on Friday 12 April at Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium and will complete the final leg of his run on Easter Sunday.

Alternatively, any UHDB staff wanting to join him on a leg of his run should email the Trust’s communications team on uhdb.communications@nhs.net
