Biography

Dr M Ahmed was appointed as consultant paediatrician with an interest in gastroenterology and nutrition in April 2004. His training in the field of general paediatrics has been in various hospitals in England and Wales with a particular emphasis on paediatric gastroenterology and nutrition.

Since his appointment, he has been pivotal in developing and delivering a lauded paediatric gastroenterology services locally. He has also introduced skin prick testing in the department and helped to develop children’s allergy services locally.

He is honorary senior lecturer in medical education at the School of Medicine at Leicester University. He has strong research interest and is departmental 'Research Champion' for West Midlands-Local Clinical Research Network. He has significant number of national/international presentations and peer reviewed publications to his credit. He has been tutor for Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) from 2010-2013, undergraduate lead for the department (2004-2014) and departmental lead (2016-2019). He is also paediatric oncology lead locally.

Nationally, he has been RCPCH liaison officer for the International Paediatric Training Scheme (2007-2012) and an assessor for Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) applications in paediatrics (2007-2011). He was Chair of CNN Clinical Governance Group from 2014-16. He is currently a senior examiner for Membership of Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH) and Diploma in Child Health (DCH). He is also START assessor at RCPCH (2012 to date) and AAC penal member. He instructs on various paediatric and neonatal life support courses (APLS, NLS, PILS and GIC) and safeguarding children courses (CPRR) nationally.

Biography

Dr Choules is a general paediatrician. He trained mostly in the south and south west of England and spent some time as a registrar in Australia.

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and has wide experience in the care of children including newborn babies and patients with neurodisability. Since starting in Burton in 1999, he has provided clinical leadership for the development of respiratory, allergy and epilepsy services and spent three years as lead for paediatric services. More recently has held the role of clinical director for women and children’s services. He has also served as postgraduate clinical tutor and director of education within the Trust.

Dr Choules has a keen interest in medical education and is an associate dean for Heath Education England (Midlands and East) and Director of the West Midlands North Foundation School. He is also Chair of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges Foundation Programme Committee.

Biography

I am working as a Consultant at Queen’s Hospital, Burton since August 2011. I completed my Registrar rotation from East Midlands Deanery. I am a General Paediatrician with primary interest in Allergy. I also deliver General Paediatric clinics and see patients with general paediatric and respiratory problems. I am undergraduate lead for Child health block for Leicester medical school students.

I am the Lead for risk management in the department. I am NLS instructor and regularly teach on these courses and run neonatal simulations within the department for junior doctors for teaching and training purpose. I am an accredited Educational supervisor. I lead on various audit projects including national audits. I am actively involved in teaching within the department. I contribute to the on call rota which includes covering neonates.

Biography

Dr D Muogbo was appointed as consultant paediatrician at Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (BHFT) in September 2011. His training in the field of general paediatrics has been in various hospitals in the UK.

I completed my first year of my basic paediatric training in London and subsequent 2 years in Nottingham. My higher specialist paediatric training was in the west midland deanery rotating through several specialties and developed a special interest in paediatric gastroenterology. I was appointed as a consultant at Queen's Burton Hospital in September 2011.

Since my appointment I have also taken up link for nephrology and built an interest in this area. I am currently the lead for neonatal services and college tutor for Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH).

Dr Ruggins has more than 25 years experience working as a Consultant at Derbyshire Children's Hopsital. Although he has subspecialty interest and clinical commitments in Neonatology and Children’s Respiratory disease, including asthma and cystic fibrosis, he continues to maintain an interest and commitment to General Paediatrics so retains a broad clinical experience.

Within this role he has worked in wider aspects of the NHS with other providers and commissioners. He has been a part of many of the changes within the NHS and has had to drive them through locally within the Service and see them become established. More recently, Dr Ruggins spent some years in the role of Clinical Lead for Transition in the East Midlands working for the Strategic Clinical Network establishing and promoting good practice in the moving on of young adults from children’s to adult services. He also serves nationally as the Chairman of the NIPE Advisory Group as established by NHS England to oversee the implementation and functioning of the newborn examination screening programme.

Biography

Doctor Zaman is a consultant paediatrician with an interest in rheumatology and adolescent health at Queen's Hospital Burton. He has gained excellent experience around the West Midlands with an interest in rheumatology, an interest that blossomed at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital (a leading centre for this specialty).

As a new consultant he will provide excellent care to the local population in both his chosen speciality as well as in general paediatrics and neonates. He has knowledge of adolescent medicine and is keen to be involved in local transition and advocating for this patient population.

He has a keen interest in medical student education and was made SAT (senior academy teacher) at the Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (2017-2018). Currently, at the University of Birmingham, he works as part of the medical student question writing group. He has always been involved in research and has posters and presentations, as well as published research. This has allowed him to present nationally and internationally.

He is particularly proud of his involvement in the training days provided for the West Midlands trainees. He also stated that he is extremely honoured to have organised the consultant training day for senior trainees that took place in July 2017 at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital, receiving great feedback.
