Radiographer David's 'immense pride' at role of President of the Society and College of Radiographers
A UHDB radiographer has told of his "immense pride" after taking up the role of President of the Society and College of Radiographers.
David Pilborough, who is a Superintendent Therapeutic Radiographer at Royal Derby Hospital, was inaugurated as the President of the prestigious organisation last month after being elected by fellow UK council members back in 2021 and spending a year as President Elect.
The Society and College of Radiographers was formed in 1920 and is the trade union and UK professional body for the diagnostic imaging and radiotherapy workforce and has around 20,000 members across the UK. The role has a four-year term and will see David take on the role of President for 12 months.
David, who started at the Trust in 2010, said he is "extremely excited" about the opportunity.
He said: "It is a wonderful opportunity and I am extremely excited, honoured and proud to be the head of my professional body and trade union. The role of the President is to represent the Society and College of Radiographers and be its public face.
"My specific aim will be my 'Big Conversation' – getting out to departments and higher education institutions and meeting members to find out what the Society can do for them."
David said he was delighted to share the news with colleagues who have supported him in his journey, adding: "I’ve had great reactions from all my colleagues which has been amazing, and I’ve had fantastic support from my managers which means a lot."
David is now officially in post as President and when his term comes to an end, he will become chair of UK council until 2025.
