300 patients taking part in Inflammatory Bowel Disease BioResource Study

bowel disease study team

We are delighted to announce the recruitment of our 300th patient to Inflammatory Bowel Disease BioResource study.

The Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) BioResource study aims to significantly increase our understanding into the causes and new treatment options for Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis. A large team of doctors, nurses and patients from across the country, including our Gastroenterology team at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust, has been assembled to run the study with the help and support of the NIHR BioResource.

Many gastroenterology patients have previously been recruited into previous highly successful studies into the genetics of Crohn’s and Ulcerative Colitis.

These have now been published in leading medical science journals, and have had a major impact on our understanding of the causes of IBD. The aim of the IBD BioResource is to build on these studies, and turn this new knowledge into improved treatments.
