A UHDB Physiotherapist has been recognised after helping to make a significant contribution to research into treating and rehabilitating patients with complex and often rare conditions affecting their joints, bones and muscles - known as musculoskeletal conditions.

Marcus Bateman, Consultant Physiotherapist based at Florence Nightingale Community Hospital and the Derby Shoulder Unit at Royal Derby Hospital, has been successfully shortlisted for the Rising Star Award at the upcoming CRN (Clinical Research Network) East Midlands Research Awards 2024, which recognises outstanding contributions to clinical research.

A UHDB Physiotherapist who set up a research trial to improve patient experience for those who have injured the tendons in their hand has been shortlisted for a prestigious award, for her ongoing work to support patients. 

Of the 256 participants enrolled into the national HbA1c diabetes study by 14 trusts, UHDB was the top recruiter, bringing 43 people into the study.

Patients who are having a knee or hip replacement at UHDB are benefitting from a state-of-the-art robot that helps assist their procedure, delivering more accurate, less invasive surgery, reduced recovery times, and improved outcomes for patients.

The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) has awarded £8.5 million to an East Midlands partnership, including Derby Clinical Trials Support Unit (DCTSU), part of University Hospitals of Derby and Burton (UHDB), to deliver one of eight hubs of the new NIHR Research Support Service (RSS).
