Nurse Amie crowned Patient Experience Champion 2022

Patient EXP Champio

We are delighted to announce the rour winners and runners up for Patient Experience Champion of the Year 2022.

Our winner is Amie Beaton, Registered Nurse in the Combined Day Unit, RDH. Amie used her own money to buy boards to fill with positive and motivational material – quotes and images – that she changes according to the season. These boards are placed in the department where patients are seated for their treatment. Amie had recognised that her patients are going through a very difficult period and chemotherapy can be hard to deal with. By providing a more positive environment, she’s helped make a difference to her patients.

Amie said: "The feedback I have had from patients about my motivational boards has been lovely to hear. I really enjoy doing it every month and knowing I’m making a difference - it touches my heart."

Our runner up is Dr. Chris Chung, Emergency Medicine Doctor, who has been working hard for the last couple of years, throughout Covid, on improvements to communication for the families and friends of patients in the Emergency Department at RDH. He noticed an issue with repeated calls for information during Covid when people couldn’t accompany patients into the department. Following workshops with members of the public and engaging with other staff in the department, Chris was able to instigate trials of different ways of working to ensure calls could be answered swiftly and resolved there and then, reducing the amount of time with back-and-forth contact.

Chris

Both our runner up and winner this year showed a commitment to patient experience and took initiative to make something better for their patients and service users.
