NHS Rainbow Badges – helping UHDB be more inclusive

LGBTIn collaboration with the Pride Colleague Network, we have been working hard to make our hospitals more inclusive for LGBTQIA+ patients and colleagues.

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton took part in the second phase of the NHS Rainbow Badge scheme, to improve the work environment for LGBTQIA+ colleagues and the care we give to LGBTQIA+ patients.

The Equality, Diversity and Inclusion team and Pride Colleague Network have been working together on taking the feedback and advice across the Trust, to make our hospitals as LGBTQIA+ inclusive as possible.

Ways we are making our hospitals more inclusive

  • Adding sanitary bins to every toilet.
  • Encouraging departments to feature LGBTQIA+ people in information leaflets and posters.
  • Enquiring about having training available to support LGBTQIA+ colleagues and patients.
  • Encouraging people to ask other's pronouns.
  • Our Pride Network have joined lunchtime information sessions and meetings to discuss the work of their network and why an LGBTQIA+ support system so important.
