An event to raise awareness and boost testing for Hepatitis C is taking place in Derby city centre next week.

Three colleagues from Royal Derby Hospital's Emergency Department have been recognised as 'Patient Heroes' by Prem Singh, Chair at UHDB, after he saw their "remarkable levels of compassion and person-centred care" first-hand during an emergency visit with a relative. 

Colleagues working in the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit at Royal Derby Hospital have showcased how the service is reducing pressures in A&E and bed capacity, in a video which demonstrates how the service is transforming patient care.

NHS Confederation visited our SDEC team as part of their urgent and emergency care programme, which aims to highlight examples of best practice that should be adopted across the wider NHS system - as part of NHS England's drive to have a similar service in place at every hospital with a major emergency department. This also follows the team being shortlisted for both NHS Parliamentary and HSJ Patient Safety Awards over the last year.

An A&E nurse who sprang into action when her neighbour had a heart attack at home, has been praised by his family after her quick-thinking actions saved his life.  

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB) hosted a visit by Matthew Taylor, Chief Executive of NHS Confederation, who met nationally recognised teams and praised the innovation on display during his time at Royal Derby Hospital (RDH).
