Captain Sir Tom captured the hearts of the nation during the summer of 2020 as he began fundraising for the NHS by walking laps of his garden and he went on to raise almost £33m for NHS Charities, benefitting trusts up and down the country.

As a thank you for all of his incredible fundraising efforts and a permanent reminder of his inspirational life and legacy, a leaf in memory of Captain Sir Tom has been added to the memorial tree in a special red colour.

Cathy Winfield, Executive Chief Nurse, said: “Everything that Captain Sir Tom did for NHS Charities was nothing short of remarkable, and he provided inspiration for so many people within the NHS and around the world at a time when we needed it most.

“We are honoured to add his name to our Memorial Tree in Burton, and to our Memorial Garden at the Royal Derby. We would once more like to thank Captain Sir Tom and his family for everything they have done to support the NHS and its staff during the pandemic.A commemorative poppy in memory of Captain Sir Tom Moore at Royal Derby Hospital

“We have witnessed so many examples of generosity and acts of kindness in our communities during what has been an extremely challenging time, I would like to extend my thanks and gratitude on behalf of everyone at UHDB to you all.”
