Covid-19, one year on: Claire Egan

Claire Egan

To mark the one year anniversary of the pandemic, members of Team UHDB are sharing their thoughts and reflections of their personal and work lives during Covid-19.

The pandemic will have had a very different impact on each and every one of us, so the one year anniversary since we started to see the first inpatients admitted is a good opportunity to reflect on the year gone and to look forward.

Today, Claire Egan, Healthcare Assistant based in our RDH ICU team, has asked that we share her poem, which she wrote on 10 November, which was, in her own words "on a particularly bad day - one of many".

An invisible monster came into town, so we got up and fought and dusted off our crown .. little did we know we would soon be going into lockdown.

We had never experienced anything like this before, our feet barely had time to touch the floor.

The public clapped and we felt good, whilst you were sat at home, we were at work sweating  in our powered hood.

We all had our own stresses and strife - not knowing if ourselves or our loved ones would lose a life.

I hope life will be normal again, but for know we keep fighting this battle until we don’t know when.

I know we all want to wish this year away but let’s sit back, take stock, and be blessed that we have lived another day.

This has been the toughest battle we have ever faced but I have done it with the best comrades.

It’s an honour and a privilege to do what we do, so from myself and my family, we would like to say thank you.
