Helen Forrest receiving award

Helen Forrest, Lead Nurse for Infection, Prevention and Control (IPC) at UHDB, has been recognised for her outstanding work during Covid-19 by the Royal College of Nursing (RCN).

As part of the RCN’s celebrations for International Year of the Nurse and Midwife, the Derbyshire branch has selected 20 award winners in the county to receive special recognition for their work this year.

Helen was nominated by Senior Nurse for Professional Standards, Karen Hill, for her courageous leadership throughout the pandemic. Helen has played a key role in keeping our patients, visitors and staff safe.

In her nomination, Karen said: “Helen has committed her nursing career of 30 years to Derby Hospitals. She is a courageous, compassionate and visible clinical leader who strives for excellence.

“Helen has risen magnificently during the pandemic, embracing the tricky challenges and leading the IPC agenda from the front with consistency and efficacy. Her collaborative approach enables a high standard of IPC controls and measures.

“Quite simply, Helen is a Derbyshire hero in the Year of the Nurse and Midwife.”

Upon receiving her award, Helen said: “Thank you all for your kind words, I’m really touched.”
