Executive Team support porter Avtar on his running challenge to honour our fallen UHDB heroes

A Royal Derby Hospital porter has raised over £5,000 by running in memory of the UHDB colleagues who have sadly passed away during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Avtar Samrai has now run more than 130 miles, after setting out to complete a three mile jog each day for 31 days from the end of April, to help create a memorial honouring those colleagues no longer with us.
After smashing his initial £1,000 target, Avtar decided to extend his challenge and, on top of the 25,000 steps a day he walks as part of his job as a UHDB porter, he will now be running two miles each day until 28 June.
The whole UHDB family have really got behind Avtar’s fundraising, including our Executive Board, with Sharon Martin, Chief Operating Officer, today joining him for a lap of Royal Derby Hospital to showcase her support.

Avtar said: “Today, we’re going to do a lap around the hospital to try and raise as much money as we can to make a long-lasting memorial for all of the staff that we’ve sadly lost at UHDB. This is something that’s really close to my heart and I’m really passionate about it.”
Sharon added: “I’m running with Avtar today just to give him some extra support. What he’s doing is amazing. It’s a really, really good cause and we want to support him on the Board. Well done, Avtar!”
