She has led several large multi-centre and international research trials in her area of specialty, the diabetic foot, supporting better understanding into foot care, leading to improvements in patient care, treatment and outcomes.
Her life's work has been recognised and celebrated with this prestigious lifetime achievement award by Medstar Georgetown University Hospital, based in Washington, United States - one of the oldest academic institutions in the state.
Fran commented on her recent achievement, "I have spent my working life caring for and treating diabetic patients including severe cases where patients have undergone foot amputations, witnessing the devastating impact on their quality of life and long-term health. It has been a privilege to serve patients both through direct care and research to make a real difference to their long-term health and improving the way we do things as healthcare professionals and reshaping the medical landscape for diabetic limb salvage".
