In memory of Kim Cobb née Love

Kim Cobb

We are very sorry to announce the sad passing of Kim Cobb from Head and Neck Unit at Royal Derby Hospital due to illness. Kim had worked for the Trust for 41 years and will be known to many as Kim Love. She was a Sister for Head and Neck before retiring and returning as a nurse in the same department.

Her friends and colleagues across the Trust will remember her laughter and humour, as well as being an excellent mentor and a compassionate leader.

Kim started her career in theatres before moving to outpatients. She then became Sister in ENT, and in doing so was the youngest Sister in the Trust at that time, before eventually becoming Senior Sister for Head and Neck Unit. She was passionate about improving patient experience and set up outreach clinics at London Road, Ilkeston Community Hospital and St. Oswald’s Hospital in Ashbourne, which allowed patients to be seen without having to travel as far. When Kim retired and returned as a nurse, she continued to play an active role in the outreach clinics.

Di Ball, Senior Sister for Head and Neck Unit said: “Kim was a confidant and advisor to so many people. She always put the patients and her staff first and was a truly inspirational leader. So many nurses owe their skills due to her fantastic mentoring. We will all remember Kim for her unique laugh, humour and a friend to all whose lives she touched. Keep laughing and singing our Kim.”

If you have been affected by Kim’s death there are support networks in place, which includes a confidential support line (0800 085 1376) available 24/7, details of which are available on Net-i.
