My Nursing Journey: Hannah, Ward 409, RDH

Hannah is a Sister on Ward 409 at the Royal Derby Hospital. She qualified as a Nurse in March 2018.
After qualifying as a Nurse, Hannah went to work on the Medical Assessment Unit at the Royal Derby Hospital as a Band 5 Staff Nurse. After a year on the unit, Hannah was then seconded on to Ward 310, one of our Winter Pressures Wards. Once the secondment on Ward 310 was over, Hannah interviewed for a Band 6 Sister role on Ward 409 – that is where she is currently working today.
“I love my role as a Nurse at UHDB. I believe it is so important to look after your patients as if they were your own relatives – treat them as a person and not a number!”
“I was inspired to become a Nurse because I think it is fantastic that we can make such a difference to one person’s life in such a short space of time. It is so rewarding to have this thought in the back of your mind – it reminds you why we walk through the doors of this building every day.”
“A memorable moment from working on Ward 409 is a recent patient who we cared for, he used to be a Baker – whenever he visited the ward, he’d always bring us a special treat! We’ve had everything rom Carrot Cake to Meat and Potato Pie!”
We asked Hannah what she would say to someone thinking about starting their Nurse training, she said; “My advice for anyone looking to go into nursing would be stick with it! Sometimes university can seem hard, but trust me - it's all worth it in the end!"
