Derby Nurse praised for going above and beyond to support overseas colleagues

A Royal Derby Hospital Nurse working on our Medical Assessment Unit has been praised by colleagues for the work she does to support the Filipino Overseas Nurses when starting at the Trust.

Minnie Inacay, Sister, was nominated by one of her colleagues to receive the UHDB Excellent Employee Award, after supporting them when they first arrived in the UK from the Philippines.

The nomination read: “When I arrived here in UK and joined MAU, I was so nervous as I didn't know anyone on the ward. When I met Minnie, she made me feel so welcome and looked after all of the Filipino overseas nurses. She always goes above and beyond even outside work hours.

UHDB has received nearly £100,000 in National Lottery funding to help preserve some of the Trust’s most treasured and historical artefacts for future generations to enjoy.

The ivory hammer used by Queen Victoria to open the former Derbyshire Royal Infirmary (DRI) in 1891 is just one of the many important items from our Trust’s past that will benefit from the funding boost.

One hundred head and neck patients benefit from robotic surgery at Royal Derby Hospital.

One hundred patients, cared for by the Head & Neck Theatre Team at Royal Derby Hospital, have benefited from reduced pain and a quicker recovery, thanks to an innovative robot funded by the Trust and Derby and Burton Hospitals Charity.

Today’s 100th operation, a trans-oral procedure for a patient with tongue based cancer, was led by Mr David Laugharne, Consultant Maxillofacial Head and Neck Surgeon and Mr Sean Mortimore Consultant ENT, Head and Neck Surgeon.

Registered Nurse Suzie Parsons was nominated by one of her colleagues to receive a UHBD Making a Difference Award, as a small thank you for helping make their husband’s near 100-day stay in hospital “a little easier”.

UHDB patients already benefiting from brand new mobile MRI scanning unit at QHB

A mobile MRI scanning unit has been set up at Queen’s Hospital Burton to ensure our patients continue to receive the best care possible – while new state-of-the-art scanners are installed across UHDB.

Two brand new MRI scanners will replace the existing ones at Queen’s Hospital Burton and London Road Community Hospital over the coming months, as part of an exciting, staggered £2.5m upgrade within the Trust’s Imaging department.

Derbyshire vaccine programme reaches 100-day milestone

Derbyshire began the biggest vaccination programme in the history of the NHS, and today – Wednesday 17 March – the NHS in Derbyshire is marking the milestone with a video bringing together some of the highlights from the journey so far.

The first Covid-19 vaccine doses were administered at Royal Derby Hospital and Chesterfield Royal Hospital on December 8, just six days after the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine had been formally approved by the MHRA.
