We’ve been speaking to three UHDB nurses working in one of our COVID-19 assessment areas to gain an insight into how the outbreak has impacted them. Kayley Page, Emily Marriot and Caitlyn Barke all care for Coronavirus patients on the Combined Assessment Unit, which is based at Royal Derby Hospital.

Double celebration for 80 year old Coronavirus survivor

A patient who was diagnosed with Coronavirus has been given the greatest gift of all as he walks out of hospital Coronavirus free on the day of his 80th birthday.

James Graham, 80 years old today, was first admitted to the Royal Derby Hospital with Coronavirus symptoms on 31 March. The 80 year old COVID Survivor has been cared for by the team on Ward 409 for just over a week.

COVID-19: An update from our Chief Executive

Gavin Boyle, Chief Executive, said: “We can now confirm that sadly, four patients aged 47-80 have passed away at Royal Derby Hospital. They had tested positive for COVID-19. Our thoughts and condolences remain with the patient’s family and loved ones at this difficult time.

“These are unprecedented times for all our communities and across our hospitals in Derby, Burton, Lichfield and Tamworth our people are working in extraordinary ways to meet the challenge we face together.
